In case you didn’t pay attention in geography class, Canada is a big country. But with vast majority of our population living in metropolitan areas, the amount of time we spend commuting to work is a relatively acceptable 26.4 minutes as of the latest data available from Stats Canada. Now, those of you living in any major city know that 26.4 minutes doesn’t actually get you very far. The average commute distance in Canada is about 12 kilometres. But we also know that we love our weekend road trips to go camping, cottaging or perhaps visiting family a few hours away. We often say that the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is the ideal vehicle for the Canadian market today. Why? Because plug-in hybrids just make so much sense given our landscape, lifestyles and infrastructure. Let’s take the example of someone who lives in Saint-Léonard, QC and goes to an office in downtown Montreal four days a week. The commute is about 14km each way. On the weekends, the family loves to hike and ski at Mont Tremblant (130km away). On a regular basis, they visit family near Quebec City (260km away) and near Toronto (550km away). During the week, the Outlander PHEV acts as an EV – with the 61km of EV range easily getting the person to work and back. Plug it in at home and no gas is required for the daily work commute. But on weekends and holidays, there’s no range anxiety or planning to figure out where to charge. The Outlander simply acts as a fuel-efficient gas vehicle. And there’s money to be saved. Our Outlander PHEV vs Gas Savings Calculator on the mitsubishi-motors.ca web- site will show you how much you could save over a three-year period of owning the vehicle. That’s not to say Mitsubishi Motors doesn’t believe in full battery electric vehicles. You would have read on Page 13 that we’re introducing a BEV for the 2027 model year. But we know the vast majority of Canadians own a single vehicle they need for a variety of driving tasks. For them, a plug-in hybrid just makes sense. If you haven’t gotten behind the wheel of an Outlander PHEV yet, do yourself a favour and take a test drive. There’s a reason why it has been Canada’s best-selling plug-in hybrid SUV for three-straight years. Until next time,
