The design is backed by Mitsubishi Motor’s technology and unique know-how in the rally activities. Adventurous means Outlander always has a challenging spirit and knows the risk of adventures. That is why the eyes are sharp and look forward with adventurous spirit. I drove this car in Hokkaido. It was very nice and controllable. It felt as if the vehicle and human are unified, and I can control the vehicle smoothly and easily. I was very surprised. After driving, I thought that the design matches the performance. Not only design, but also the technology is sharp and gives confident driving. Does the Outlander’s design process reflect your company’s overall design philosophy? Mitsubishi design is always accelerating to the next stage with our Robust & Ingenious design philosophy. Robust means securing confidence, performance and functionality for customers. Ingenious means challenging to create new things to set our unique position in a different way from other companies. From Mitsubishi history, our strength is the rigid driving performance backed by rally activities. We have confidence in our SUV and 4WD technologies. The Outlander is the first and next generation of authentic Mitsubishi-ness and the front runner
of our evolving design strategy. Our vision for the future aims to match the customers’ adventurous spirit with our mobility and design to excite and answer the needs of aspirational customers. We have an asset of rally activities and high potential technology, and we enhance this asset through design. We also provide trust for the quality of the vehicle through the customers’ lives and usage. What differentiates Outlander’s design in today’s competitive marketplace? Mitsubishi design invites customers to augmented possibilities, to drive their ambition. We are particular about making solid, robust and meaningful design. At a glance, customers can see authenticity and not fakeness. This is important for us, because we are challenging other companies even though we have a long history. We secured competitive roominess with the width, and the overall length and height are mostly the same level as the previous Outlander. The stance and the width are different with roomier interior. We were particular about showing performance image backed by Mitsubishi technology. It was important to show the Mitsubishi brand and technology in this flagship model. We perfectly controlled the stance/body, body/tire location, and A-pillar/tire location. We reformed the proportions and packaging.
